London Wine Competition keeps raising its judges bar

London Wine Competition is pleased to have almost all of its judges judge again with the addition of more judges as the competition keeps growing.

Now into its 5th year, the London Wine Competition which is known for its rigorous judging process and for thinking and acting like the consumers that are going to end up buying the wines adds more trade buyers, Master’s of Wine and Master Sommeliers to its judging panel.

In order to judge the London Wine Competition, you need to be a trade buyer at retail or a restaurant or be a Master of Wine or a Master Sommelier. Each panel of the London Wine Competition has a minimum of one MW or one MS, one retail buyer, and one restaurant buyer. This is further balanced with one woman and one man on each panel.

In 2019 when the competition was into its 3rd year, Sid Patel, CEO of BTN and organizer of London Competitions decided to focus on bringing reliability in judging for the London competitions and had set very specific criteria to make this happen.

The goal was to improve judging quality and consistency by looking at ways to improve the competition and to help judges improve their abilities. Empower judges with more tools to improve their decision. It is paramount to reliability that competition methodology is
rigorous and that judges are consistent year after year, he added.
