Entering your wine, beer, and spirits in global competitions is a great way to give a boost to your brand. It’s one of the most effective ways to know where you stand in the drinks market. However, it’s a tough task to decide what competition is perfect for your wine, beer, and spirits.
That is why Beverage Trade Network introduced the three London Competitions - the London Wine Competition, The London Spirits Competition and the London Beer Competition into the market. The main aim of the London Competitions is to give brand owners, suppliers, and producers a chance to shine the light on wines, beers, and spirits that they are hoping to sell and grow in the market.
While curating the judging process for the London Competitions, Beverage Trade Network asked over a hundred trade buyers about how they chose wines, beers, and spirits for their portfolios and lists. In the end, it all boiled down to three main things - Quality, Value, and Packaging, and this is exactly how the London Competitions are judged.
The judging panel of the London Competitions consists of buyers with current direct commercial buying responsibility, and drinks consultants and experts who are also directly involved in the development of new brands or buying drinks for commercial resale.
The London Competitions are designed to keep in mind what the consumers are looking for, and are judged according to what consumers would pick off the shelves or order at a bar or restaurant.
The points scored when judging the three competitions are divided to ensure the right weighting is given to each of the three key criteria of quality, price and design. It is broken down as such.
Quality Score: marked out of 50
Value Score: marked out of 25
Packaging/Design Score: marked out of 25
Gold: you need to score 90 or over.
Silver: a score between 76-89.
Bronze: a score between 65-75.
After 2 consecutive successful years of the London Competitions, Beverage Trade Network is taking all three competitions global - offering winners of the competitions more publicity.
The winners in the separate Beers, Wines and Spirits competitions can now look forward to added publicity in key markets around the world thanks to new partnerships that Beverage Trade Network has secured. This step was taken to give wine, beer, and spirits brands a larger platform and bring them in front of the widespread drinks industry.
From 2021, a selection of the medal winners in the 2020 awards will be exhibited at a special area at the global ProWein trade fair. Medal winners will also be presented to the trade at the International Bulk Wine & Spirits Shows taking place in 2021, including London on March 17-18.
