Italian Merlot Bags An Award At The 2022 London Wine Competition

Le Bastie Rosso 2012 scored 94 Points and won the Gold Medal along with the Best Wine By Varietal - Merlot and Best Wine By Country - Italy.

As the results of the 2022 London Wine Competition are announced, this Italian Merlot takes home the Award for the Best Wine By Varietal. After numerous days of tastings and celebrating some of the best wines from across the world, the winners of the 2022 London Wine Competition have been announced by some of the renowned sommeliers and wine buyers in the country.

London Wine Competition lauds a balance between great quality, fabulous packaging, and value for money. The winners of the competition will give future trade wine buyers, specialist wine retailers, casual dining, or upmarket restaurants, the reassurance that these wines are what the customers want to buy. The competition has grown immensely over the years with over 1300 wines being submitted for the 2022 London Wine Competition.

London’s top sommeliers and wine buyers came together on March 21-22 at St Mary’s Church in London’s Marylebone. They tasted a vast array of wines and gradually the judging of the London Wine Competition reached its peak. The judging panel consisted of some of the top wine buyers from London’s most renowned establishments like Selfridges, Mondial Wine Ltd., and Handford Wines.

Australian wines won numerous awards including the Winner of the 2022 London Wine Competition which was awarded to Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat. Italy did a fabulous job too and won the Best Wine by Varietal for Merlot for Le Bastie Rosso 2012 which was also the winner of the Best Wine by Country for Italy. 

Le Bastie Rosso 2012 scored 94 Points and won the Gold Medal along with the Best Wine By Varietal - Merlot and Best Wine By Country - Italy.

Made from the best-selected Merlot grapes, Le Bastie Rosso is a full-bodied and full-persistent, generous wine that is pleasantly spicy, velvety, and well-balanced. The wine has a refined and elegant bouquet with an intense personality. It is a great pairing with red meats and stews.

NOSE: Pronounced aromas of berries like red currants, dried plums, spices coffee, some vegetal notes and rosemary.

PALATE: Full-flavoured and full-bodied with pleasant spices and a velvety, well-balanced body.

FINISH: A well-balanced finish
