Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat: Best Wine of Australia

Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat, Australia, with 97 points, became a proud winner in three categories — ‘Wine of The Year’, ‘Best Wine By Quality’, and ‘Best Wine of Australia’ of the 2022 London Wine Competition.

The results for the 2022 London Wine Competition are out and we are pleased to announce that Best Wine of Australia goes to Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat.

The London Wine Competition is one of the leading wine competitions that seeks to recognize and reward wine brands that have been created to target a specific wine drinker category. It is a competition in which each wine is judged by quality, value for money, and packaging.

This year’s competition saw a total of 1300 wine entries from more than 36 countries. This is a substantial increase from 1100 entries in 2021 and marks a growth of 18.18%. Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay were the top 3 varietals that entered the 2022 competition, and Australia, Italy, and Spain were the top 3 countries to enter wines.

Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat, Australia, with 97 points, became a proud winner in three categories — ‘Wine of The Year’, ‘Best Wine By Quality’, and ‘Best Wine of Australia’ of the 2022 London Wine Competition.

Gathered at the St Mary's Church in London’s Marylebone, the judges were a wide selection of wine buyers and sommeliers from the top names in the hospitality sector such as Gordon Ramsay Group, The Dorchester, the D&D Group and Goodman Restaurants; and Master of Wines Peter Mitchell, Claire Blackler, and Barbara Drew, who loved Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat for its rich and classic notes, leaving endless layers of flavor on the palate.

Established in 1975 by Merilyn and Graham Hutton, Gralyn Estate is one of Australia’s great producers of high-quality premium and fortified wines. It is located in the Margaret River wine region of Western Australia. They have been awarded numerous gold medals and trophies at national and international wine shows.

Gralyn Estate produces both dry and sweet wines and pioneered the region's first port styles. Gralyn Estate Artizan Rare Muscat has established a reputation as one of Australia's finest fortified dessert wines, winning trophies and numerous gold medals. This wine does not have a vintage date, as it is a blend of many years and hence the term 'non vintage' or NV. It has an average barrel age that varies from nine to thirty five years. This limited release has the stamp of a true Artizan i.e. handcrafted and unique.

Judge’s tasting notes:

“Rich, dense character with good acidity and pronounced aromas of toffee, raisins, candied fruit, chocolate, mocha and dates. Generous palate with notes of toast, caramel and raisins and a complex long finish.”
