When some of the UK’s most respected sommeliers, wine directors, and Masters of Wine were asked where they most enjoy drinking wine outside of their own workplace, a clear favourite emerged: Noble Rot.
For the 2026 London Wine Competition, seven of our judges independently named Noble Rot as their top destination, underlining its status as one of the most beloved wine venues in London.
Among them are:
Georgios Iordanidis – Head of Wine at Annabel’s
Michele Orbolato – Head of Wine & Sake, Thesleff Group
Maria Boumpa – Wine Director & Restaurant Manager at Da Terra, UK Sommelier of the Year 2025
Angelo Lorea – Head of Wine at The Roof Gardens
Tim Triptree MW – International Director of Wines & Spirits at Christie’s
Yves Desmaris – Senior Sommelier at Galvin La Chapelle
Joanna Nerantzi – Head Sommelier, 5 Hertford Street
Founded by Dan Keeling and Mark Andrew, Noble Rot combines the warmth of a neighbourhood wine bar with the prestige of an award-winning restaurant. Its list is celebrated for rare bottles, classic vintages, and exciting discoveries, all paired with seasonal menus that elevate the dining experience. For professionals, it’s more than just a place to unwind — it’s a source of inspiration, connection, and discovery.
Beyond the restaurant, Shrine to the Vine, its nearby retail arm, allows guests to bring a piece of Noble Rot home. Stocking wines chosen with the same level of care, it has become a hub for London’s wine-loving community.
It’s no surprise that so many of our judges hold Noble Rot in such high regard. The venue is also home to Joshua Castle, Wine Director and Sommelier at Noble Rot, who has been interviewed by the London Wine Competition on what it takes to be a top sommelier. His insights reveal not only the philosophy behind Noble Rot’s acclaimed wine list but also what drives excellence in wine service today — read Joshua Castle’s full interview here.
When so many of our judges — people who shape wine programs at Michelin-starred restaurants, private members’ clubs, and luxury venues — choose the same place to drink wine, it speaks volumes. Noble Rot isn’t just a favourite bar; it represents the kind of thoughtful curation and quality that buyers are looking for in wines today.
By entering the London Wine Competition, your wines will be assessed by the very same experts who spend their free time exploring and celebrating wine in places like Noble Rot. That’s your chance to get your bottles in front of the people who influence what ends up on the lists at top restaurants and retailers across the UK and beyond.
